GIST held its 2012 summer graduation ceremony on August 24, 2012. The ceremony began at 2 p.m. in Oryong Hall with about 400 graduates, their families, and faculty members. (GIST is short for Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology and its President is Kim Young-Joon.)

At the commencement ceremony, 37 were awarded doctorate degrees and 73 graduate degrees. Among the awardees, 15 (5 Doctors and 10 Masters) were foreign students who studied at GIST.

Doctors awarded at the ceremony have published an average of 6.14 papers in the notable journals covered by the SCI(Science Citation Index). Dr. Park Joo-bong at School of Materials Science and Engineering has had all his 47 papers published in SCI journals.
