"A paper attracting the world academic circle is more important than several research results even if it takes much time to create it. I"ll focus on quality rather than quantity when evaluating professors."

 

Kim Young-Joon, new president of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), said "GIST College will turn out its first graduates in two years. It aims at being a world"s top 100 university at the time" in an interview with Donga Ilbo.

 

GIST, established in 1993, ranked the top in Korea in terms of the presentation of Science Citation Index (SCI) level papers per faculty in 2010. Even if the size of GIST is small, it is recognized as a research centered university with high performance.
