graduated from Seoul National University with a major of fiber engineering at engineering college and received his master and ph.D degrees in Seoul National University and N. Caronlina St. University in the US. He used to work as department head in Electromotive Engineering Department and head of Planning and Research Division while he was working as professor in Electromotive Engineering

Department of GIST since 1995 and he is currently working as GIST dean since 2008.

He is also contributing to national scientific technology advancement by performing as a member of 21st century Frontier R&D Project Promoting Committee, Commissioner of Evaluation Committee of National Science & Technology Commission and head of Lifelike Contents R&D Center and was awarded by minister of Information Communication and Korean award for Science GIST University is being spotted as the best science technology university in Korea along with KAIST and POSTECH.

GIST University is based on GIST(Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology) that "ranked 12 in the world" in world university evaluation and topped in Asia for four consecutive years.
