GIST, Sweet Jazz at Summer Night

   - Gwangju Contemporary Jazz Orchestra Performance

   - "Good Response" from Audience with Small-scale but Quality Performance

 

 

GIST invited GwangJu Contemporary Jazz Orchestra to hold the first cultural event at 7pm on June 22 at Oryong Hall.

A total of 10 songs including traditionally well-known jazz songs like "what a wonderful world"and "New York New York" and popular music like "Hey Jude", and "When I Fall in Love" were performed at the event.

 

GIST cultural event which marks the 3rd anniversary starting from 2009 received a good response from local residents as the event has been small but quality performance reflecting the characteristics of Gwangju. 

 

GwangJu Contemporary Jazz Orchestra(GCJ) is composed of 19 members including conductor Soo Yong, Park, pianist, guitarist, drummer, contrabass performer, vocal and five members for saxophone, four for trumpet and another four for trombone. The harmony of extempore performance by soloist designated by a conductor and brass musical instruments is recognized as an attractive music.

 

Head and conductor, Soo Yong, Park graduated from New School University and graduate school of New York University. He was a musical director and performer for New York Town Hall Concert, UN Headquarter Concert, Yool Sung, Jeong International Music Festival and 14th and 15th Korea-US cultural festival. Currently, he serves as a dean of musical department of Honam Theological University and Seminary. Jazz pianist Jong Hwa, Park(professor of musical department of Honam Theological University and Seminary) also performed his music as a special guest.

 

Hong Kook, Kim, Director of the Office of International and Public Affairs of GIST said, "this event will provide perfect stage and sweet jazz music to local residents." "I hope that GIST cultural event provide a venue for GIST to take a step forward to the local residents," he added.
