The Gwangju Institute of Science & Technology(GIST, President Jung-ho Sonu) is embarking on an effort to lead the way in vitalizing laser research in Asia.
The GIST announced that it had begun a four-day course for the "2010 Summer School on Lasers and Laser Applications" for Asia"s young scientists with the opening ceremony held on 2 participated by young Asian scientists.
The event organized by Advanced Photonics Research Institute (APRI, Director In-won Lee) has attracted the 13 recommended students and researchers from four Asian countries - Singapore, Malaysia, India, and Vietnam with majors in relevant fields of science.
The event, which was designed to provide higher education opportunities to young Asian scientists and to facilitate academic exchange among countries, will feature presentations made by the APRI reserachers themselves. The summer school, which runs until 6, plans to cover a wide range of topics related to optical science from basics to applications, including atomic and molecular quantum optics, nonlinear laser source, and bio imaging.
