GIST, discusses exchange and cooperation with University of Paris VII
Major figures including the president and vice president visit GIST
GIST has started full scale discussions on exchange and cooperation with University of Paris VII.
Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST-president: Jung-Ho SONU) stated that high rank officials of the University of Paris VII including President Vincent Berger visited GIST on the 7th.
President Berger’s visit to GIST was a return visit in response to president SONU’s visit to GIST last February for expansion of international cooperation and academic exchanges with overseas advanced universities. At this visit, the two institutes had in-depth discussions for promoting multilateral cooperation.
After discussing about expanding mutual joint research and promoting information exchanges with major figures of GIST including president SONU, the people from the University of Paris VII meticulously looked around state-of-the-art research centers of GIST such as “Ultrashort Quantum Beam Research Center”, the only ultrahigh laser center in Korea, and“Center of Seawater Desalination Plant”, which spearheads the development of new technologies which will solve water shortage problem, and showed much interest in our high quality research infrastructure.
University of Paris VII is a national university established in 1970, and of 13 national universities in France, University of Paris VII is specialized in natural science and engineering such as biology and computer engineering and Korean studies. In particular, University of Paris VII is well known to have established a world-class test environment.
Heechul Choi, director of GIST overseas cooperation department(professor of environment engineering) said that “cooperation with the University of Paris VII will be an important opportunity to consolidate the science and technology partnership with France which is an advanced country in science and technology”, and also said “at this visit, we will proactively seek various exchange and cooperation measures which could create synergy effects for each other”.
