Professor, Do-Kyeong Ko appointed as a visiting Professor of The Leverhulme Trust



 



The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) reports that Do-Kyeong Ko, a professor of the Advanced Photonics Research institute, was appointed as a Visiting Professor of The Leverhulme Trust, famous for its research and education in the UK.
 
The Trust, established in 1925 at the wish of William Hesketh Lever, the first Viscount Leverhulme, provides awards to support research and education. The Trust emphasizes individuals and encompasses all subject areas. With an annual funding of some £50 million (about 93 billion won), the Trust is amongst the largest of all subject providers of research funding in the UK.

The objective of the awards is to enable distinguished academics overseas to spend between 3 to 10 months at a UK university, primarily to enhance the skills of academic staff or the student body within the host institution.
Professor Ko received the Visiting Professorship Award through the University of Manchester in collaboration with The Trust.



The over-riding criteria for selection are the academic standing and achievements of the visitors in terms of research and/or teaching. Professor Ko became the first Korean to be awarded a Visiting Professorships by The Trust in recognition for his academic outstanding research and achievements, which including his 124 thesis in optics. He has been supported for his research in 9 months from December, 2009
