2010 First lecture of GIST Science School on Water and the World of Ion

Uses of water include industrial, agricultural water, household activities and so on. Water is everywhere and we use it every day, but we don"t know what"s in it; taking a close look at fresh water, it contains several components, which may teach us one important scientific fact

Today"s lecture is about some important properties of water.

When we think about water, it can be first thought for household. Actually, water is the most important chemical, which plays even bigger roles in maintaining ecosystems, balancing human metabolism, generating electricity, and being used by cooling and washing things in factories.

Unlike other molecules, water has a high heat capacity and its boiling point is abnormally higher considering its molecular weight.

This property of water prevents global temperature from rising and falling easily by heat of the sun, which means water makes the earth an appropriate place for us to live. Thanks to the property, it is used in process of cooling down (anything hot).
