The newly opening bachelor’s program will receive a total 100 applicants for admission, 80 through its September rolling admission and an additional 20 through the December regular applications, all of which will be chosen by the Admissions Officer system. This recruitment has been long-awaited by local people and is attracting high interest from both students and their parents.   <o:p></o:p>

To date, it has turned out more than 30 Nobel-prize winners.   <o:p></o:p>

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; WORD-BREAK: keep-all; LINE-HEIGHT: 150%; TEXT-AUTOSPACE: ideograph-numeric; TEXT-ALIGN: left; mso-pagination: widow-orphan; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto" align=left> The bachelor’s program at GIST features the selection of a small number of talented students, uses an interrogatory method of teaching, focuses on experiment-centered study, and provides an intensive investment in basic science and mathematics. The newly recruited 100 students will learn basic science and cultural studies during their first two years, and will then start their own major in their junior year.  <o:p></o:p>

Along with this, GIST also plans to strengthen the areas of humanities, social sciences, and artistic education for them. <o:p></o:p>

Emphasizing the importance of the liberal arts, the president of GIST stated that the source of creativity is based on a wide range of humanities and he would like to produce students who have balanced knowledge of science and technology along with the liberal arts. <o:p></o:p>

Undergraduates can use only English in all classes except humanities and social sciences. Since its opening, GIST is the only university in Korea to use English in all courses. <o:p></o:p>

All freshmen students are exempt from tuition and registration fees and assigned to a dormitory. Strong students are given a two-month training program abroad during summer vacation and GIST is also planning an exchange program during the regular semester and will cover all expenses for the overseas training. <o:p></o:p>

According to the number of papers per professor among Asian universities in 2009, surveyed by QS, a British rating agency, GIST ranked first (2nd Postech, 8th KAIST, 52nd Seoul National University) among 463 universities in 11 countries. This is considered one of the most important factors when evaluating a university’s research capability and the results has revealed that GIST has the world’s top academic achievements and capacity. In addition, GIST has maintained the top position in SCI (Science Citation Index) for 14 years from 1995 to 2008 in Korea.  <o:p></o:p>

This survey is another major indicator in evaluating research performance of a university and could be the most objective standard used to estimate the quality of research.<o:p></o:p>
