GIST Social Development Team hosts GSOP Winter Camp
□ The Social Development Team at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Seung Hyeon Moon) invited 43 middle school students from Jeonnam and Gwangju areas on December 16, 2017, to participate in the GIST Science Outreach Program Winter Camp.
* GSOP is a science-sharing education program where GIST students volunteer to become mentors by selecting middle school students who have demonstrated an interest in science. This program is supported by the GIST Social Development Team.
□ GSOP Winter Camp was held over two days on December 16 and 17. On the first day, campus tours, science kit programs and leadership classes were held. On the second day, science programs and a trip to the Gwangju National Science Museum were organized.
∘ Participants made optical fiber cars and optical communication kits with GIST mentors. The program consisted of an intensive science programs, and the participants' interest and satisfaction were high.
□ The GSOP program was held for the first time at the GIST Social Development Team. It is currently being offered to middle school students, but in the future it will provide long-term and systematic education programs until student enter college so that they can continuously progress in science and technology.
□ Kim, who participated in the camp, said, "It was exciting and interesting to see the scientific principles that were hidden while doing various science activities that could not be done at my school."
