GIST hosts "The 1st International Security Science and Technology Workshop"
□ The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Seung Hyeon Moon) and National Assembly member Gyeong-Jin Kim hosted "The 1st International Security Science and Technology Workshop" on December 6, 2017, which was attended by officials from government departments such as the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, and the Ministry of National Defense.
∘ Hyeong-cheol Kim, a guest speaker from Cheongju University, said, "We need to find a way to cope with the North Korean missile threat, which is becoming increasingly sophisticated, together through science and technology."
□ This event is designed to seek the direction of future development, such as sharing of R & D status and international cooperation on security science and technology R & D related to 'comprehensive security' covering defense, disaster, and security.
□ At this event:
∘ Professor Robert Glebocki, Director of Defense and Security Research Center, Warsaw University of Technology, Poland, suggests that it will find ways to cooperate through existing EU-ROK joint research programs, such as the European Union's Horizon2020.
∘ Ministry of Information and Communication Director Byeong-hee Lee said it was desirable to improve national defense R&D by creating an environment where "failure" is an integral part of the development process.
∘ GIST Professor Gi-hoon Lee said, "It is a very welcome thing that the National Defense Commission has been established and started to work at the National Science and Technology Council from this year, but it has to develop into the National Land and National Security Expert Committee like the NSTC (National Science and Technology Council) R&D design and investment to integrate efficiently will be possible in 'security science and technology.'"
∘ GIST Professor Kiseon Kim chaired the panel discussion and said, "In the field of security science and technology, we need to emphasize that actively promoting domestic and foreign research cooperation is a shortcut to overcome the limitation of time and resources."
□ Based on the contents of this international workshop, GIST will make various efforts to promote research and international cooperation in the field of security science and technology.
∘ GIST established the GIST Center for Security Science and Technology (GISTCSST) in December 2005 as an organization to organize the strengths research areas of GIST that can contribute to science and technology R & D in national defense and national security and to promote related research.
□ APRI Director Byeong Ha Lee hosted the event and said, "Poland, and the United Kingdom have a dedicated center for intensive research on science and technology in the field of security in universities and are managing related research and development at the national level. I hope this international workshop will be a chance to create such an establishment of science and technology in Korea and to cooperate with the world."
□ Gyeong-jin Kim co-organized the international workshop and said, "The development of security science and technology is essential to prevent war and safeguard the people. I hope that GIST, which was newly appointed as a specialized research institute of the Defense Agency in Korea last year, will play a leading role in contributing to disaster and security based on its outstanding defense research capability while working with the world."
