GIST-Warsaw University of Technology sign memorandum of understanding

□ The Security Science and Technology Center (Director, Byeong Ha Lee) at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Defense and Security Research Center (Director, Robert Glebocki) of the Warsaw University of Technology, Poland. The MoU includes personnel exchanges and cooperation on defense and national security research focused on applying science and technology.

∘ Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) was founded in 1826 and is one of the most prestigious universities in Poland with a history of 191 years. The National Defense and Security Research Center was established by the Polish government in November 2012 in order to more systematically carry out research and development of science and technology for defense, security, and disaster through interdisciplinary collaboration and convergence research.

□ On July 24 and 25, 2017, Director Byeong Ha Lee, Professor Kiseon Kim, Professor Kangwook Kim, and Professor Ki-Hoon Lee held discussions regarding the MoU with Director Robert Glebocki of the Defense and Security Research Center of Warsaw University of Technology along with other professors and researchers.

∘ In addition, the Imperial College London (ICL) in the UK established the Institute for Security Science & Technology (ISST) to allow the government, industry, academia, and research institutes to resolve national and international security issues through close cooperation.
∘ GIST Security Science and Technology Center hosted a security science technology policy debate in January of this year, which was attended by senior officials and researchers from the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Health and Welfare. In November, the Defense and Security Research Center in Poland, ISST in the UK, and Korea will hold an international security science and technology workshop attended by security-related government agencies and research institutes.
