GIST International Environment Research Center held a short-term educational training program on "Managing Environmental Climate Change Response"
□ GIST International Environment Research Center (Director Joon Ha Kim) in conjunction with Thailand's Chulalongkorn University held a short-term educational training program on "Managing Environmental Climate Change Response" from May 22 to 24, 2017, at the Samsung Environmental Research Center.
□ This educational training program was attended by 20 professors and students from the Center for Excellence in Hazardous Substance Management (HSM) at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, to share goals and methods of environmental management, to introduce international programs for hazardous materials and environmental management, and to establish informational networking among researchers.
∘ On the first day first day of the training program, participants visited the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology and the International Environmental Research Center and other related laboratories that are currently conducting research on environmentally hazardous material management techniques.
∘ The second day of the training program began with a lecture by Director Joon Ha Kim on the chaotic age of the fourth industrial revolution and climate change and was followed with School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Engineering lectures by Professor Kyoun-Woong Kim on arsenic geochemistry and human health issues in Mekong delta area, Professor Sang-Don Kim on chemical toxicity in water, Professor Junho Lee on climate change trends and drinking water quality engineering, Professor Eunsuk Kim on plant responses to changing climate, and Professor Jin-Ho Yoon on the assessment and uncertainty of climate change impact on regional weather and climate.
∘On the last day of the training program, participants visited the POSCO Gwangyang Works for a technical tour and to observe the steel manufacturing process of the world's first artificial intelligence steelworks.
□Director Joon Ha Kim, " With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, future predictions become more important than ever, and the need for solutions and technological strategies for future environmental problems due to climate change is increasing. We expect to provide solutions that can respond to environmental problems in Southeast Asia through climate change response technology developed at GIST."
□ This short-term educational program was organized by GIST alumni Dr. Penradee Chanpiwat who is now at Chulalongkorn University.
