Advanced Photonics Research Institute celebrates 16 year anniversary with a special ceremony
□ The Advanced Photonics Research Institute (APRI • Director Byeong Ha Lee) at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST • President Seung Hyeon Moon) held a special '16th Anniversary Ceremony' at its auditorium on May 10, 2017.
* The Advanced Photonics Research Institute was established at GIST in 2001, and it is the only specialized research institute in the field of laser and photonics.
□ Director Byeong Ha Lee said, "APRI has developed the world's first 4.2 petawatt ultra-high-power laser and has produced excellent results in basic science and industrial applications. I am now urging researchers to further devote themselves to R&D so that we can make the leap into the world's top five research institutes within the next five years."
□ The special ceremony was attended by former colleagues as well as 80 current members of APRI, including Dr. Chul Kang who as a researcher received an academic paper award, Dr. Woojin Shin received the technology development award, and staff members Ae-sil Lee and Hyun-jung Kim received meritorious awards.
