GIST and the Korean Air Force sign a cooperation agreement
□ The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST • President Seung Hyeon Moon) and the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF • Air Force Chief of Staff Kyung-Du Jung) have concluded an 'Agreement for Cooperation in the Field of Military Science and Technology' at the ROKAF headquarters on April 19, 2017.
□ GIST and ROKAF have agreed to cooperate closely in developing defense-related research capabilities utilizing science and technology, which are considered to be the strengths of the GIST, in order to create advanced air power and support systems for basic technology development and the training of military personnel to manage those systems and technologies.
∘ The cooperation agreement will help train experts in space and electronic warfare, allow joint seminars between civilian and military personnel, and improve the ability to counter cyber threats by utilizing new information and telecommunication technologies.
∘ Last year GIST was designated as a specialized research institute in the field of electronic warfare, high performance lasers, next generation energy, and military communication networks. GIST also has the Advanced Photonics Research Institute (APRI • Director Byeong Ha Lee), which is a world-class laser research facility that can support national security related defensive research projects.
□ GIST President Seung Hyeon Moon said, "We hope that GIST and ROKAF will contribute to the development of science and technology as well as the national security as the two organizations actively promote technical and human exchanges and cooperation."
