Dr. Suil Kang of the International Environmental Research Institute was selected as a member of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

□ Dr. Suil Kang of the International Environmental Research Institute at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Seung Hyeon Moon) was selected as a member of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Technology Executive Committee (TEC).

□ Established in 2010 by the Conference of Parties (COP), TEC is a climate technology policy organization with the Climate Technology Center Network (CTCN) *, which focuses on the technical implementation of the UNFCCC. The goal of COP is to achieve a low-carbon, climate-resilient communities, and sustainable development through various policy developments and activities to promote the development and technology transfers.

* CTCN: Climate Technology Center  Network (www.ctc-n.org), GIST is the 300th member of the CTCN and, Korea currently has the largest number of member organizations in the world (48).

∘ TEC is composed 20 members, including 11 members (3 from Asia and the Pacific, 3 from South America, 3 from Africa, 1 from the poorest country, 1 from a small island) and 9 members from Annex-1.

∘ For the past three years ('16 -'18), the project has been divided into six divisions (▲ technology demand evaluation ▲ reduction ▲ adaptation ▲ innovation ▲ climate technology financing ▲ latest and cross-sector issues) with progress reports given at meetings held twice a year.

□ Dr. Suil Kang said, "Through the TEC, we will contribute to the achievement of a low carbon, climate-resilient communities, and sustainable development of the Paris Convention as soon as possible. We will work hard to publicize various global climate technology policies and trends in Korea, and to act as a mediator to ensure that domestic opinions are reflected in TEC's climate technology policies."
□ Dr. Gwang Su-il has been working at the GIST International Environmental Research Institute since 2004. He has supported GIST-UN University's joint research on environmental and climate change related research, training, and international cooperation for developing countries. From May 2016, the Climate Technology Cooperation Team of Korea's National Designated Entity (NDE), has been cooperating with CTCN and the UNFCCC in negotiating global climate technology policies.
