GIST Ph.D. candidate Myeongsu Seong has been awarded the prestigious Global Ph.D. Fellowship from the Korean National Research Foundation (NFR). Mr. Seong is a student with the Department of Medical System Engineering (DMSE) under the guidance of Prof. Jae Gwan Kim.

Mr. Seong is planning to use his Global Ph.D. Fellowship to develop a non-invasive optical hemodynamic measurement system that can simultaneously collect data on blood flow and its oxygen saturation. Such data can provide vital tissue metabolic rate information for many different applications.

He will then apply the system to measure the aforementioned hemodynamic signals from a small animal model of Alzheimer"s disease during its progression and treatment.

The goal of this research is to find a correlation between the progress of Alzheimer"s disease and changes in cerebral hemodynamics, which may provide the possibility of creating an early diagnostics test for Alzheimer"s disease in humans.
