2016 GIST Startup Idea Competition
First prize awarded to Ph.D. student Sun-kyu Lee of the School of Materials Science and Engineering
Sun-kyu Lee won first prize at the 2016 GIST Startup Idea Competition hosted by Center for the Promotion of Entrepreneurship with his printable transparent sealant for electronic devices.
Sun-kyu Lee’s suggestion was to use melamine instead of previously used silicon based sealants. Melamine can be manufactured in low temperature, reducing manufacturing cost. His idea impressed judges, and he received high marks for potential future commercialization.
The Center for the Promotion of Entrepreneurship received research proposals in May for the competition, and they picked one first prize, one excellence prize, and two encouragement prize winners.
The excellence prize went to a graduate student Ji-ae Yu for "Save the Sea with the Water Separation Filter." The encouragement prizes went to integrated master"s and Ph.D. student Kyoung-eun Jang for "Graphene/Semiconductor Heterojunction Based High-Performance Infrared Photodetectors" and graduate student Jung-bin Kim for "Clear Filter for Fine Dust."
The winner’s ceremony will be held during the GIST foundation day ceremony in November, and the winners will receive: 3 million won for the first prize, 2 million won for the excellence prize, and 1 million for encouragement prizes.
