GIST Holds This Year’s Professional Baseball Name Day Event

On June 1st (Saturday), Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President    Young Joon Kim) held the Professional Baseball Name Day event for the year 2013 at Gwangju Mudeung Baseball Stadium where the ball game between Kia Tigers and LG Twins was played. This event was to celebrate the 20th anniversary of GIST and members of GIST actively participated in the event; at the ball game, President Young Joon Kim threw the first ball with Min Ki Yoon, an undergraduate of GIST at General Studies Division, at bat, Professor Kim Jae Gwan sang the national anthem, and about 2,000 GIST students watched the ball game.

This year marks the 5th anniversary of GIST’s Professional Baseball Name Day event. The event is to promote GIST to the citizens of Gwangju Metropolitan City, to cheer Kia Tigers based on Gwangju to victory as a means to show GIST’s love for the community, and to give GIST’s students an opportunity to relieve their academic stress.

Unfortunately, Kia Tigers lost the game with LG Twins despite rousing cheers from the citizens of Gwangju and members of GIST.
