GIST Ranks 7^th among Water Research Institutes

 

– Lux Research in the US released top 10 water research institutes and academics for the year 2013.
– This result reflects GIST’s successful desalination researches and their effects in the future.

– “GIST hopes this result, as well as GIST’s profound capability to conduct water-related researches, can contribute to inviting National Water Research Institute to locate in Gwangju.”

 

 

 

□ GIST(Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, President   Young Joon Kim) ranked 7^th in Top Academics and Institutions in Water Research 2013, a report surveyed and reported by Lux Research.

❍ Lux Research provides strategic advice and ongoing intelligence for emerging technologies of the future and intellectual property. Its headquarters is located at Boston, the US. It also has branch offices at 10 countries worldwide including Singapore and Seoul.

□ In 2006, GIST hosted Seawater Engineering & Architecture of High Efficiency Reverse Osmosis sponsored by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement (headed by Executive Director Kim, In S., a professor at School of Environmental Science and Engineering). Since then, GIST has led seawater desalination plant projects with 50 institutes and 700 researchers and achieved a lot in reverse osmosis membrane techniques for desalination. Based on GIST’s achievements and influence upon water-related industries and researches, Lux Research ranked GIST as 7^th.

□ Lux Research surveyed water research institutes, and profiled and interviewed key thought leaders across the world, to identify best practices for partnering with academic research over the next 15 years, given the importance of water-related industries and technologies which gets lots of attention worldwide due to population growth and climate change.

❍ GIST is the only Korean institute in the list. Two Singapore universities, the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, took the top two spots. Both focus mostly on desalination, reuse and membranes.
