Family of the Late Professor Un-Chul Paek Donates 200M to the GIST - Generous contribution to be used for scholarship funds for PhD students in the School of Information and Communication The family of the late professor Un-Chul Paek, who was praised as the father of the photonics industry in Gwangju and the very first professor at the Gwnagju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), made a generous contribution of 200 million won to the GIST. At the donation ceremony held in the Adminstration Building of the GIST on August 25, Mrs. Paek Jaehak Lee, wife of the late professor, represented his will "my family decided to make this contribution in memory of him, who loved the GIST very much. We hope that this fund will be used as scholarship funds for PhD students in the School of Information and Communication." The GIST president Jungho Sonu awarded Mrs. Paek Jaehak Lee an appreciation plaque. "On behalf of all GIST staffs and students, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the noble will of the late professor Paek, who unstintingly donated his property for scholarships. To honor the wish, the contribution will be used as scholarship funds for those who are dedicated to studies despite hard financial circumstances," he said.
