  • Four GIST Department of AI Convergence PhD graduates have been appointed professors at major universities The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Kichul Lim) announced that four graduates from its Department of AI Convergence have recently been appointed professors at major Korean universities. The newly appointed graduates, Dr. Jin-Hwi Park, Dr. In-Hwan Bae, Dr. Won Kim, and Dr. Young-jae Park, will begin their research and teaching careers as assistant professors at Chung-Ang University's Advanced Young College of Business Administration, the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Chosun University's Department of AI Software, and Kwangwoon University's Department of Information Convergence.   • Professor Hyunglok Kim of GIST appointed as Associate Editor of IEEE TGRS, a world-renowned remote sensing journal The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Kichul Lim)announced that Professor Hyunglok Kim of the Department of Environment and Energy Engineering has been appointed as an Associate Editor for the world-renowned journal IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing (IEEE TGRS). Professor Kim will serve a key role in maintaining the journal's quality and fairness, overseeing the entire paper review process and providing editorial recommendations based on review results for a minimum of three years, from 2026 to 2029.   • A GIST graduate student research team won the 32nd Samsung HumanTech Paper Award The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Kichul Lim)announced that the research team of JuHyeong Lee, Gyurin Kim, and Juhwan Kim all of whom are in the combined master's and doctoral program in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, under Professor Hyeon-Ho Jeong's laboratory, won the Encouragement Award at the 32nd Samsung HumanTech PaperAwards. The Samsung HumanTech Paper Awards, hosted by Samsung Electronics and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the JoongAng Ilbo, is a leading science and technology paper award established in 1994. The award recognizes research papers submitted by undergraduate, graduate, and high school students, and is presented after a thorough review process, with the goal of discovering future leaders in science and technology.   • Professor Emeritus Jae-Suk Lee of GIST publishes a policy report through the Korean Academy of Science and Technology The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Kichul Lim)announced that Professor Emeritus Jae-Suk Lee of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering has published a policy proposal report titled "Development Direction of Helical Polymer Synthesis in the AI Era" as part of the "Distinguished Researcher Career Decisions" project hosted by the Korean Academy of Science and Technology(KAIST). "Distinguished Scholar Career Decisions" is a lecture and policy program where Korea's top researchers share their research experiences and insights, offering direction and inspiration to future scientists and engineers.
