GIST awards Dream of Science Scholarships
to 13 local elementary school students
With the hope of fostering and promoting a culture of
science among the community, the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology
(GIST) has awarded 13 Dream of Science Scholarships to talented students at local
area elementary schools.
GIST Professor Byoung Hun Lee who is also the Dean of
International and Public Affairs attended the graduation ceremony of a local
elementary school and presented a 200,000 won Dream of Science Scholarship award
to a student who has demonstrated outstanding test scores in science.
The Dream of Science Scholarship was awarded by GIST to one
student with excellent scientific performance and potential at 13 different
local elementary schools. This scholarship program began in 2005 with 8 elementary
schools and has expanded to participating elementary schools in 2015. Each
year, the elementary school principal recommends a student with outstanding
academic and scientific merit to receive the scholarship from GIST.
Dean Byoung Hun Lee said, "The scholarships awarded by
GIST to the children of our community is an investment for the future success
of our regional development by encouraging their continual interest and
curiosity about science. Because the local community is a key partner for our
regional planning, GIST will continue to expand and develop a variety of
projects that can benefit and improve the community."
