GIST strengthens scientific ties to Vietnam through alumni
□ President Seung Hyeon Moon of the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) along with Professor Kyoung-Woong Kim of the School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Engineering and Professor Joon Ha Kim (Director of the International Environmental Research Center) visited Vietnam and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Food Management. They also attended the inaugural ceremony of the GIST Vietnamese Alumni Association.
∘ After visiting the National Institute of Food Control (NIFC) on June 5, 2017, an MoU between the institutions was signed regarding research cooperation and discussions were held about the exchange of top personnel and teaching methods.
∘ On June 6, 2017, the GIST delegation visited the Vietnam Geological Resources Institute (VIGMR) and signed an MoU regarding research cooperation with an emphasis on establishing a local office dedicated to climate change cooperation with the International Environmental Research Center.
□ GIST President Seung Hyeon Moon said, "We are looking for ways to promote mutual growth through research cooperation between GIST and these two institutions in Vietnam, especially because researchers from NIFC and VIGMR have entered GIST doctoral degree programs and have collaborated to resolve environmental issues in Vietnam. I hope that the exchange and cooperation between our two countries will be revitalized through these MoUs."
On the last day of his visit to Vietnam, President Moon attended the inaugural ceremony GIST Vietnamese Alumni Association. Dr. Do Manh Cuong, who serves with the Vietnam Ministry of Health, was elected the first chairman of the alumni association, and Dr. Nguyen Van Anh, who works at Hanoi University, was elected secretary-general. The meeting was attended by 53 people.
□ Dr. Do Manh Cuong, the first chairman, said, "I am very proud that the GIST graduates in Vietnam have started an alumni association, and I will promote meaningful projects that will allow alumni to help develop and promote our alma mater. help us develop my alma mater through alumni."
