GIST, Info Meditech, and the National Research Center for Early Diagnosis of Dementia at Chosun University sign a cooperation agreement
□ The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST • President Seung Heyon Moon) and Info Meditech concluded an agreement on technology transfer and mutual cooperation with the National Research Center for Early Diagnosis of Dementia at Chosun University on May 26, 2017, at a GIST ceremony that was attended by GIST Professor Woo Keun Song of the School of Life Sciences, GIST Professor Sung-Gyoo Park of the School of Life Sciences, CEO Sang Hoon Lee of Info Meditech, and Director Kun-Woo Lee of the National Research Center for Early Diagnosis of Dementia at Chosun University.
∘ The agreement is focused on developing dementia prediction and early diagnosis technology that is optimized for Koreans as well as other Asians and to implement pilot programs for the public. In the future, GIST and the National Research Center for Early Diagnosis of Dementia will continue to promote technology transfer and industry-academia cooperation in order to improve the technology for predicting and providing early diagnosis of dementia.
□ Professor Woo Keun Song, who developed the core technology for this agreement, said, "Within the next 2 or 3 years, I expect that the technology developed by the National Research Center for Early Diagnosis of Dementia will be able to predict and provide early diagnosis of dementia by a simple test using only a small amount of blood."
□ Info Meditech CEO Sang Hoon Lee said, "It will be possible to develop practical technology by using the vast amounts of clinical medical information and patient samples related to dementia that has already been accumulated by the National Research Center for Early Diagnosis of Dementia at Chosun University. In the future, we will contribute to the development of the national economic industry as well as improving the quality of life for people by developing world-class technologies related to diagnosing dementia with a high degree of versatility and reliability."
□ The project for the early diagnosis of dementia will be supported by a total of KRW 30.7 billion, including 28.7 billion in national funding, until June 2019.
