Dr. Myung-soo Ko was selected for the "2017 Presidential Fellowship" award by the Ministry of Education
□ Dr. Myung-soo Ko of the School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Engineering (ESEE) at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Seung Hyeon Moon) was selected for the "2017 Presidential Fellowship" award by the Ministry of Education.
∘ The 'Presidential Fellowship' project is a government-funded project to support scientists improve and maintain the sustainability of their outstanding research activities by providing initial jobs and research grants.
□ Dr. Myung-soo Ko was the only project selected at GIST in the field of earth science with the purpose of identifying pollution sources in underground environments contaminated with arsenic and possible restoration measures with consideration of the risk posed by the pollution sources."
∘ Dr. Ko plans to identify the source of arsenic contamination in soil and groundwater through this research and to establish techniques for suggesting suitable restoration methods for each source. The pollution identification method to be established by this project will be an alternative for solving the pollution problem of domestic and foreign pollution sources in the future.
□ Dr. Ko will be receiving government funding of 130 million won each year for the next five years (3 years + 2 years).
