In this talk, Surprise Based Learning (SBL) will be presented, which is a novel machine learning algorithm founded on the concepts of Complementary Discrimination Learning.

SBL is capable of learning both the structure (i.e., number of states) and the parameters (i.e., input/output correlation) of a system.

As one of several applications adapting SBL, SafeguardAI and its experimental results for self-driving will be presented.
