As of May 2011, over 124 regular faculty members have been recruited, and GIST is aggressively recruiting more faculty members. The Institute has invited 9 regular international faculty members as well. In addition, 13 adjunct professors from the U.S., Japan, and German and 9 visiting professors have joined the Institute. The adjunct professors participate in our programs by offering short courses, giving seminars, and performing joint research projects.

Most of the faculty members at GIST have already established impressive records in their own fields of research. They are well supported with research funds from the government. In addition, they are encouraged to collaborate with industry. The teaching load is kept to a minimum so that they can devote themselves to research activities.

GIST faculty members have accomplished remarkable achievements as follows: Nation's highest number of papers/professor published in SCI-listed journals: approximately 5.2/year per professor during the recent consecutive 5 years. Most of the faculty members and students participate in the government-funded "Brain Korea 21" program.

Several faculty members having similar research interests are grouped into teams to conduct joint projects. Such projects are believed to be more effective than individual research efforts.
