    The School of Information and Communications offers a world-class curriculum preparing developers of the next generation in information technologies such as communication systems,computer networks,photonics,optics, semiconductor optoelectronics,microwave electronics,signal processing and computer science.

School of Mechatronics

    Future complex multi-functional technology requires an interdisciplinary approach. Mechatronics is an emerging discipline combining mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, industrial engineering, controls, instrumentation and computer science which will enhance quality of life through the creation of innovative products and manufacturing processes.

School of Materials Science and Engineering

    The discipline of materials science and engineering combines physics, chemistry, polymer engineering and electronic engineering to produce novel and innovative materials for efficient and effective technologies enhancing the quality of life. Our school pursues excellence in teaching and research through world-class faculty, state-of-the-art research facilities and dedicated students.

School of Environmental Science and Engineering

    Our environmental Science and Engineering program covers a wide range of areas, ranging from drinking water safety ,hazardous waste treatment and soil contamination restoration to energy, air pollution and climate change. Environmental engineers and scientists are involved in resource development, land use, and management of resources to achieve and maintain the qualities required for designated uses.

School of Life Sciences

    The Life Sciences field unlocks the complex, mysterious phenomena of living organisms. This frontier science employs the most cutting edge mothodologies and its outcomes potential contribute to the well-being of all humankind. Scientists can now examine life and its processes at a molecular level due to recent exponential progress in biochemistry and molecular biology.

School of Physics and Chemistry

    The School of Physics and Chemistry at GIST offers graduate degree programs in physics and chemistry departments. The undergraduate programs of the school of physics and chemistry are offered through the physics and chemistry concentrations at the GIST College. The School offers forefront research and educational programs in the areas of physical science. Students are involved in variety of cutting edge research.

Department of Nanobio Materials and Electronics

    The Department of Nanobio Materials and Engineering(DNE) is part of the World-Class University(WCU) program of the National Research Foundation(NRF) in Korea, supported by Ministry of Education, Science and Technology(MEST) of Korea. The DNE at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology(GIST) will receive 30,000,000 dollars for 5 years through these agencies.

School of Physics and Chemistry

¦Å Department of Physics and Photon Science

    The Department of Physics and Photon Science was founded in the fall of 2012 to provide excellent education and research opportunities to graduate students in the field of physics and photon science. The department has a short history, but we are growing very fast. The number of professors and graduate students will continue to increase for the next several years, and it will be a major department soon. At present, Department of Physics and Photon Science has strong research activities in the field of optics, plasma physics, condensed matter physics, bio photonics, and more research fields will be added in the future.

Graduate Program of Dept. of Medical System Engineering

    The Graduate Program of Dept. of Medical Engineering(GMSE)was established in spring 2008with the mission of promoting multidisciplinary education and research in medical system applications. The Faculty of GMSE is recognized as world-class researchers in their special areas.
