Graduate Program of Photonics and Applied Physics
Being created by the Top-Brand Project entitled "Photonics 2020", the Graduate Program of Photonics and Applied Physics(PAP) at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) aims at
- creating scientific and engineering fields of fiber optics, electro optics, biomedical engineering, environmental engineering
- improving the position of the local industry fused with IT, NT, BT, ET by focusing on research and development of photonics devices and systems
- educating specialized engineers and scientists in the aforementioned fields by graduate-school education

Graduate Program of Medical System Engineering
As new interdisciplinary research and education program, the school of medical system engineering (SMSE) was established in spring 2008 with the mission of promoting fusion researches in medical system applications. Also, all faculty members of the SMSE is recognized as world-top class researchers in their expert areas. The ongoing researches include medical system for early cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, medical system for silver industry, biomaterials and tissue engineering, drug delivery system and more. The SMSE invites extremely energetic candidates who are pursuing multidisciplinary PhDegree and have passions on medical system engineering.
